APPLICATION NOTES

1. DETERMINATION OF A TOTAL MERCURY CONTENT IN BLOOD
Blood is one of the most complex substances for determination of the Hg content. At the same time, blood is the most important diagnostic medium used for monitoring the effect of Hg vapor on the human organism. In almost all the countries, personnel of mercury-involving production facilities are regularly examined for the Hg content in blood, which should not exceed 20–50 mg/l, whereas in the case of a person unexposed to mercury vapor the blood normally contains 1–3 mg/l of Hg...
2. DETERMINATION OF MERCURY IN SOIL, BOTTOM SEDIMENTS AND GEOLOGICAL MATERIALS USING RA-915+ MERCURY ANALYZER WITH RP-91C ATTACHMENT
Analysis of soils and bottom sediments for mercury content is one of the most common analyses in the monitoring of environmental pollution. Background mercury concentrations in these objects are 10-100 mg/kg and in the polluted areas they exceed 10 000 mg/kg, the ultimate tolerable mercury concentration in soil being 2 100 mg/kg (in Russia)...
3. DETERMINATION OF PETROLEUM FROM SOIL
Quantitative analysis of petrochemicals contents into soil can be done with InfraLUM FT-02 IR Fourier transform spectrometer according to DIN 38409H18...
4. DIRECT AA MERCURY DETERMINATION IN AIR
The overall picture of regional ecological situation shows that mercury is one of the most hazardous toxic elements in urban soils and sediments. The origins of mercury pollution at industrial and urban areas have been determined by exposure of many types of sources. A high proportion of mercury is transferred to deponent media through the atmosphere. Therefore, active sources of Hg emission can be found by mercury determination in ambient air. A portable Zeeman AAS RA-915+ mercury analyzer of proprietary LUMEX Ltd. design has been used for continuous automobile and helicopter surveys of mercury distribution in ambient air. Car-borne mercury surveys were carried out during 1990–2002 in cities and industrial areas in Russia, Ukraine, Kyrgyzstan, Slovenia, Croatia and Czech Republic...
5. DIRECT AA MERCURY DETERMINATION IN BIOLOGICAL MATERIALS
Direct atomic absorption mercury determination (without any pre-treatment procedures) in the samples with complex matrix (foods, vegetation, oil and its products, soils, sediments, various biological materials) is complicated by presence of organic compounds. When such samples are atomized much smoke is produced and practically in all cases the total absorption in the cell is out of the working range of the spectrometer. Using a spectrometer with background correction – Zeeman atomic absorption mercury spectrometer RA-915+ and a developed two-chamber catalyst atomizer (PYRO-915), the direct mercury determination problem is solved...
6. DIRECT AA MERCURY DETERMINATION IN FOODSTUFF
Direct atomic absorption mercury determination (without any pre-treatment procedures) in food is complicated by the presence of organic compounds. When such samples are atomized, much smoke is produced and practically in all cases the total absorption in the measuring cell occurs beyond the working range of the spectrometer. In this case, using a spectrometer with a background correction, namely, Zeeman AA mercury analyser RA-915+ and a two-chamber pyrolytic catalyst atomizer (PYRO-915) developed by LUMEX Ltd., solves the problem of direct mercury determination...
